Kent Beyer, born and raised in Kansas, grew up in a house full of music. His father is a jazz enthusiast as a trumpet and guitar player. His mother loved all sorts of music, especially Kiss while doing house cleaning very early in the morning!
Kent started off pulling his dad’s trumpet out from under the bed and trying to get it to make sounds at age 8 but quickly began to show an aptitude for percussion at age 9. He then took drum
lessons from Steve Hatfield for the next 9 years. In school, he was able to enjoy new types of music playing in the concert, jazz, pep, and marching bands.
At the University of Kansas, Kent auditioned for the percussion department and was accepted to study under world-renowned four mallet marimba virtuoso, Kevin Bobo. Growing further under the instruction of Dr. JC Combs at Wichita State University.
After college, Kent moved to California to be closer to his older brother. Shortly after moving, he was hired to teach at the Encinitas School of Music where he taught percussion lessons for the better part of a decade.
Kent has three wonderful children and an amazingly supportive wife, who are all music lovers as well. Teaching music is his greatest joy outside of his family and he is very excited to be working at the Temecula Music Academy.
